SSP Reflection
I am so grateful for SSP because it provided me with the time and opportunity to explore and compare my two similar yet very different interests. In human medicine there is a bigger focus on research and innovation, whereas veterinary medicine focuses on pain management and advocacy. Also, having a patient named David is only funny in the veterinary world. To my surprise, although I still love animals more than anything, I’ve actually realized that I want to pursue human medicine instead. I was inspired by the passion, kindness, and pure love for their profession of the doctors. Because of SSP, I know this going into college rather than coming out of it behind.

At the start of SSP, I struggled a bit with how to spend my new free time. I had multiple hours in the day where I was stuck at school between classes with nothing to do. I felt like I was wasting time. However, I soon fell into routines. I took walks, studied, grabbed lunch with friends, and exersized.

SSP helped me discover new passions, figure out what I am and am not looking for in a career, and apply topics that I’ve been learning in school to real world scenarios, like calculus cross sections becoming cross sections of a heart on an ultrasound.
